Diploma of Accounting
(Course Code: FNS50210)

 

This qualification is designed to reflect the role of employees working in accounting who perform duties such as introducing and maintaining accounting systems, maintaining internal control systems, preparing financial statements for a reporting entity, preparing tax returns, reporting on business performance, managing small teams, developing business plans, and/or preparing management accounting reports.

Completion of this Diploma provides up to one year’s credit into relevant degree courses offered by universities.

Entry Requirements: There are no specific entry requirements, however, vocational experience in an accounting or bookkeeping environment is preferred.

Length: Self-paced (average 12 months full-time).

Cost: $4200.00 ($3780.00 concession).

Course Structure:

A total of 9 units must be completed to achieve the qualification.

Core units (6):

  • Provide financial and business performance information
  • Prepare income tax returns for individuals
  • Manage budgets and forecasts
  • Prepare financial reports for corporate entities
  • Implement and maintain internal control procedures
  • Provide management accounting information

Elective units (9)

(choose at least 1 of the following):

  • Develop and use complex spreadsheets
  • Establish effective workplace relationships
  • Interpret and use financial statistics and tools
  • Prepare financial reports to meet statutory requirements
  • Prepare financial forecasts and projections

(choose remaining units from the following):

  • Coordinate implementation of customer service strategies
  • Address customer needs
  • Develop work priorities
  • Maintain inventory records
  • Set up and operate a computerised accounting system
  • Establish effective workplace relationships
  • Manage personal work priorities and professional development
  • Identify hazards and assess OHS risks
