Productivity Places Program - NEIS


The NEIS Program is funded by the Australian Government as part of the Productivity Places Program. NEIS helps eligible job seekers to start up and run a new, viable small business. The Program provides training in small business management and business skills and business plan development.

Eligible job seekers are able to undertake one of the following courses free of charge. All course costs will be met by the Australian Government.

Certificate III in Micro Business Operations
Certificate IV in Small Business Management

The above qualifications are provided free to people who meet the eligibility criteria listed below:

  • Be at least 18 years of age at the time of commencing NEIS assistance;
  • Be available to participate in NEIS training and work full-time in the proposed business;
  • Not be an undischarged bankrupt;
  • Have not received NEIS assistance in the previous two years or for a similar business activity.

In addition, applicants must be:

  • Receiving income support from Centrelink, or
  • Over 50 years of age at the time of commencing NEIS training and be financially self sufficient whilst undertaking NEIS training, or A retrenched employee covered by the Australian Government Labour Adjustment Package.

To apply for the NEIS Program:

  1. Obtain a referral from an Employment Services Provider (Job Services Australia Provider) to a NEIS Provider. A list of NEIS providers can be accessed from this link.

  2. The NEIS provider will assess the business idea and, if suitable, refer the applicant to Trison Business College to commence one of the above courses.

  3. Following completion of the course the NEIS provider will assess the business plan of the applicant. If the business plan is approved then the NEIS provider will provide mentoring and support for the first 52 weeks of the NEIS business.
